Master's Thesis (f/m/x) - Metrology-based compensation for robotic material extrusion - IT
The Institute of Structures and Design works on the development and optimization of materials and their processing and joining technologies, as well as new design approaches and the construction of full-scale demonstrators. Naturally, testing and validation in specialized test facilities and flight trials are also part of the daily work. The focus is on fiber-ceramic, polymer, and hybrid composite materials. The research of new multidisciplinary design tools and digital models forms the basis for hardware development.
What to expect
Fused Granulate Fabrication (FGF) is a large-format additive manufacturing process belonging to the group of material extrusion processes, which enables the manufacture of complex components from high-performance thermoplastics (PEEK, LMPAEK) for the aerospace industry.
The aim of this thesis is to programme an automated script for a robotic process. The thesis is a collaborative project with the Production-Integrated Quality Assurance research group and the Assembly and Joining Technologies research group at the Center for Lightweight Production Technology (ZLP) at the DLR site in Augsburg.
Your Tasks
- Development of new processes in the metrology production environment
- Editing of .stl files and G-codes, and creation of an automated Python script
- Implementation of a new control system in the robot controller
- Conducting feasibility tests on various CFRP geometries
- Test prints on the robot-guided FGF 3D printer
Your profile
- On a master’s degree program in aerospace engineering, computer science, mechanical engineering or a comparable engineering discipline
- Very good programming skills in Python and a basic understanding of 3D printing processes
- A basic understanding of measurement technology and tolerances chains
